EU Referendum

Regardless of whether you voted 'Leave' or 'Remain' in the recent EU referendum one thing is for sure, the fallout from Brexit makes for uncertain times ahead. So, as a contractor, client company or recruitment agency, when it comes to your Umbrella, CIS and PAYE Payroll service make sure your provider doesn't 'Leave' you uncertain.

As recent events have shown, one solution most certainly does not suit all. Make sure the service you receive is fully tailored to your individual needs.

Updates to Legislation

Likewise, it is inevitable that eventually there will be updates to legislation over the next few years. Ensure your provider keeps you abreast of every relevant change. Here at Earn Extra we work in partnership with a network of carefully-selected chartered tax and legal advisors to make sure you get the latest and best advice at all times.

Although no one knows quite how Brexit will play out going forward, for sure the UK needs to be successful. Businesses, especially in our sector, will have to be flexible and evolve apace. A major part of our continuing success is the unique range of services and support we are able to offer. We believe in being open and flexible, and we're single-minded and unapologetic about making you our focus. By doing this Earn Extra is evolving constantly.

Steer a Steady UK

However, to evolve we'll need our finest politicians, economists and heads of business to steer a steady UK ship. Unfortunately at present, the resulting political wrangling does seem to be throwing up even more uncertainty. We will have to rely on the experts to guide us through, just as you expect experts to guide you through your daily business. Make sure your providers know your market. As specialists in the telecoms, construction, overhead powerlines, utilities and civil engineering sectors, our depth of knowledge comes from many years of working experience, which enables us to make your life simple and straightforward, streamlining employment and payroll management tasks to make them hassle-free.

Earn Extra's Perspective

Commenting on Brexit from Earn Extra's perspective, managing director Sharon Suttle said: "There's no doubt it will be a challenging time however as a business we're viewing it as an opportunity. As we've seen in recent years through the recession, when it comes to challenging times, more companies are looking to contractors to bridge the resource gap and we've seen even more contractors jump from permanent employment to contracting, which is a positive for our recruitment agent client too."

We Won't Leave You High and Dry

However you voted, rest assured we won't leave you high and dry. In fact, we've had our own vote of confidence recently with Earn Extra rated as 'strong' in a 2016 analysis of the UK's 247 largest payroll services companies by Plimsoll, experts in the field of company and industry financial analysis. This is the highest accolade Plimsoll awards and reflects 'excellent' performance over the last 12 months'.

We'll Keep You Updated

What is Umbrella?

  • 01/04/2016 12:05:58

What is Umbrella?

There can often be confusion around what an umbrella service actually is. In short, an umbrella service gives contractors a more consistent and secure alternative employment status.

Contractors employed through an umbrella service company essentially become PAYE employees of that company, with full statutory employment rights. The umbrella company deducts all the necessary taxes and should tell you how you can benefit from the tax relief available for genuine business expenses that may be incurred.

What to look for in an Umbrella company

If you're looking for an umbrella company make sure you are encouraged to claim holiday pay and look to see that they have processes in place that ensure regular on-time payments. Ask if there's any flexibility with late timesheets and, whether they offer online access that allows you to view personal information easily, complete and submit your timesheets and also access key documents.

The benefits

There are other benefits to look out for too such as pension auto-enrolment, after the third month of employment. Also, check to see that you are covered by the umbrella service's insurances such as Public and Employers' Liability, Professional Indemnity and Temporary Working Personal Injuy policies.

Check they can service your multiple contractors and keep you updated on any changes to legislation.

Helpful advice

Finally, make sure that you speak with the company before registering. The staff should be friendly and helpful and want to make your experience as hassle free as possible.

A proven track record

If you are a contractor working in the telecoms, construction, overhead powerlines, utilities and civil engineering sectors and are looking for a new Umbrella service or want to change provider, please call one of Earn Extra's knowledgeable team members on 01484 713147 or email
